At a time when the entire city was awash with Valentine's Day celebrations through exchange of flowers, festoons and gifts, a group of students from K.L. University dreamt differently for their age. Girls and boys, who are part of Student Promoted Innovative Research in Technology (SPIRIT) thought of spreading love among a group of orphans, who needed it the most to keep their spirits high while leading a normal life. The project nicknamed ‘I CAN' concentrated on inducing will power among the kids, who lacked parental love.

There were roses, balloons, festoons and heart-shaped stuffed gifts, but these sweet gifts did not bring smile to only one person, but about 120 orphans growing up together at Bhavanipuram had the best day of their life. Leading the youth initiative SPIRIT, Siddharth Marupeddi and member Shilpa, said they were touched by the fact that these kids picked up from streets enjoyed their stay on the Sri Krishna Children Vignan Vihar Kids' Village with no complaints.

Time flew away and it was evening and by then children got immersed in activities like drawing, painting the most colourful images from their imagination, origami, face painting, hair styling, hand prints on wall – the hit activity of the day. For the wall painting, kids printed their hands on their walls and wrote ‘I CAN'.

Children were also encouraged to hug a tree, so that it symbolises their love towards mother nature.

“It was a surprise for us”, said Mahesh, an inmate of the SKCV. “I am very happy for the event and experienced the true love today with these awesome kids”, said Sravani, a member of the SPIRIT.

“We have got to know that these kids are all good at various skills. Interestingly they are cultivating their own vegetables, which shows their capabilities,” she added. From next week they propose to organise technical sessions for these kids, with their friends in K L University so that they can excel in all the aspects of life, said Somanth Gadde, executive chairman of the SPIRIT.
