Home Minister N. Chinarajappa on Sunday said that vacant lands in possession of the police department would be leased out for construction of commercial complexes and the returns would be used for police welfare.

Addressing a meeting after inaugurating a filling station established by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited at the Armed Reserve Grounds in Rajamahendravaram, Mr. Rajappa said that there were many vacant sites abutting main roads and important junctions in possession of the police department.

“we are planning to lease them out to interested parties to undertake business,” he said.

He said that since the petrol pump was set up in the heart of the city, sale of 1.5 lakh litres of diesel and same amount of petrol a day was being expected now.
