To pave the way for early completion of the flyover project near Kanaka Durga temple, the Roads and Buildings Department has released an action plan worth ₹24 crore envisaging development of the peripheral roads that would be put to use after traffic diversion and immediate repairs proposed to be taken up at crucial junctions in the city.

An official team led by Principal Secretary, Road and Building Department, Sumita Dawra and comprising Krishna District Collector B. Lakshmikantham, Joint Collector Gandham Chandrudu, DCP Kranti Rana Tata and others, visited the site and examined progress of the works.

To facilitate early completion of the flyover works, traffic is being diverted for four months at the busy junction and alternative routes are being identified.

As per the action plan, vehicles coming from Vijayawada would be diverted at Gollapudi and roads would be developed in the tail-end areas of the city. “Repairs will be taken up to roads on a war-footing to roads in all the important junctions,” said Ms. Dawra, explaining that the funds were mainly allocated for development of the Gollapudi-Shabad Road, Nunna-Gunadala and a road in Autonagar. Restructuring of the traffic islands formed part of the project, she added. Mr. Tata said efforts were on to find out ways to ease the traffic through the tunnel which was the only outlet for vehicles moving out of city.
