Stick to time and route norms; avoid provocative speeches, organisers told

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) and the police are making foolproof security arrangements for Vinayaka nimajjanam at Seetammavari Padalu on the banks of River Krishna on the ninth day of the Ganesh Navarathri Utsavams.

The police gave permission for installing more than 1,600 idols this year. Besides, idols from Kanchikacherla, Vijayawada rural, Nandigama, Jaggaiahpet, Tadepalli and other mandals will come for immersion.

Officials arranged cranes, earth moving machines and tippers. Commissioner J. Nivas, who inspected the ghats, directed the officials to lay approach roads, arrange electrification, expert swimmers and drinking water facilities and depute sanitation staff at the ghats.

More than 2,000 policemen including two constables for each idol en route will be deputed. The traffic police will take steps for smooth flow. The organisers are requested not to use heavy vehicles to prevent traffic jams, a police officer said.

‘No crackers, please!’

The police also appealed to the Ganesh Utsav Committee members not to burst crackers and not to give provocative speeches during the procession.

Organisers of the mandapams should strictly follow the time and the route of the rally mentioned in the application forms and are requested not to use sticks or any lethal weapons.

The Committee members should alert the police of abandoned baggage, the police said.

Rescue boats will be arranged with life saving equipment. Devotees are requested to cooperate with the police for peaceful conduct of the process, the police appealed.
