Lotus Pond, the YSR Congress Party headquarters in Hyderabad, on Wednesday witnessed flurry of activity as several important leaders made a beeline for it to join the party on Wednesday.

Kakinada MP Thota Narasimhulu and his wife Vani were among the first to meet party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Vijayawada business magnate Potluri Vara Prasada, more popularly known as PVP, was the next to meet Mr. Jagan. Former MLAs Malladi Vishnu, Vellampalli Srinivas, and Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy were with PVP when Mr. Jagan formally welcomed him into the party.

Former Mayor of Vijayawada Muthamsetti Ratna Bindu, who was earlier in Congress and minority leader Khaleel who was with the TDP, joined the YSRCP along with PVP.

After these heavyweights joined the party, Tollywood actor Raja Ravichandra, Eluru Mayor Shaik Nurjahan and her husband SMR Peddababu and former Rayadurgam MLA Mettu Govinda Reddy too met Mr. Jagan who welcomed them into the party..

Later, addressing the media, Mr. Narasimhulu and his wife said that they were upset with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and other TDP leaders for not showing any concern when he fell ill and was admitted to the intensive care ward.

Mr. Narasimhulu recalled how former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy shifted Jakkampudi Ramamohan from R&B to Excise to reduce the work load on him. The indifference of the party leadership to him when he was not well and his wife when she met the Chief Minister “hurt our feelings,” the couple said.

‘It’s my decision’

PVP when asked, made it clear that he joined the YSRCP of his own volition. “It is a free country. Who can put pressure on anyone to join a party?” he said.

He said Mr. Jagan was very clear about the development of Amaravati. It was something that could be done in ten years. At least 25 years was needed to complete it, he said. He thanked Mr Jagan for giving him an opportunity to do something for Vijayawada, where he was born and brought up.
