Minister for Human Resources Development Ganta Srinivasa Rao has emphasised on the need to popularise Gurajada’s ‘Kanyasulkam’ among youths who with the advent of internet revolution have been deserting traditions and culture. Further, an action plan was also being prepared to organise events on behalf of the government to make students acquaint with Gurajada’s writings, particularly ‘ Desamante Matti Kaadoi.....’

Speaking after unveiling a silver plaque and releasing a souvenir to commemorate 125 years of ‘Kanyasulkam’ at Gurajada Appa Rao’s House here on Monday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that it was decided to present laminated photo copy of Gurajada’s handwritten poem— Desamante Matti Kaadoi...’ as mementoes hereafter to students at different contests.

Following an appeal by members of Gurajada Samskritika Samakhya, Mr. Srinivasa Rao assured them that the government would develop the vacant site adjacent to Gurajada’s House.

Media Advisor to Government Parakala Prabhakar said: “Kanyasulkam’ , the evil practice though literally not followed now, as a drama it is still alive. Assuring continued assistance from Department of Language and Culture, Dr. Parakala said that there was a need to stage ‘Kanyasulkam’ in all mandal headquarters for the benefit of school children.

Earlier, Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Dr. Parakala, ZP Chairperson Swati Rani, MLA Meesala Geeta, MLC Sandhya Rani, Joint Collector Srikesh B. Lathkar, Gurajada Samskritika Samakhya members A. Gopal Rao and K. Prakash, and others garlanded Gurajada’s statue, near M. R. College (Autonomous), and participated in a rally from there to Gurajada’s House.
