Temple puts curbs on marriages

Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam has decided to shift the marriages performed atop Indrakeeladri to Mallikarjuna Mahamandapam.

The decision was taken exactly after a year the Devasthanam restricted band and music for marriages performed atop Indrakeeladri. In February last, the temple imposed restrictions on band and music for marriages and other rituals.

Temple Executive Officer Ch. Narsing Rao on Tuesday said that the devotees who wish to perform marriage or any other religious functions such as aksharabhyasam (initiation into world of letters) would have to use second floor of the mandapam .

Mr. Rao said that the little place available near the main entrance and close to reception was being occupied by the marriage parties. The use of band and music was also disturbing the devotees. “Our prime duty is to provide peaceful darshan and serene atmosphere to the devotees. The music and band is also disturbing the daily rituals being performed to the presiding deity. So, it was decided to shift the venue to mandapam, ” he said.

The EO said necessary orders would be issued in this regard shortly.

For the record, the EO earlier said that the temple received written complaints from devotees that the band for marriages was disturbing the serene atmosphere of the temple.

The marriage parties were occupying the entrances and pathways leading to main temple. The parties were also spoiling the environs, the devotees reportedly complained. nFollowing the complaints, it was decided to restrict the use of band.

The temple employees and a section of devotees have been suggesting that the two marriage halls in the mandapam could be used instead of imposing restrictions on band and music.
