Taking strong exception to YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s decision of not to participate in the foundation fete, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders on Thursday said that the move had made himself a laughing stock among people.
TDP politburo member and Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said that by writing letter to the Chief Minister urging the latter not to extend invitation for the ceremony, the Leader of Opposition had exposed his true colours. He dismissed Mr. Jaganmohan’s claims that State government had gathered the land for capital from farmers by exerting pressure.
“Constructing a new capital is a historic moment and Mr. Jaganmohan should bear this in mind that farmers have parted with their lands voluntarily,” he asserted.
It is a general practice here to accept invitation even from their enemies and participate in ceremonies. But Mr. Jaganmohan’s decision has said it all about his attitude towards the State and its people, he said.
‘An immature move’
Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao called Mr. Jaganmohan’s move as immature and said he was unfit to be an Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.
When many dignitaries, including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is participating in the ceremony, it was unusual of the YSRC chief to stay away from it, he said.
Ponnur MLA Dhulipala Narendra ridiculed Mr. Reddy’s letter and said even MLAs and other leaders in the neighbouring Telangana had expressed their willingness to participate in the foundation ceremony.
“It is proved yet again that Mr. Reddy is against the development of State,” he said.
