City Congress Committee working president M. Rajeswara Rao on Tuesday said that the Telugu Desam and Left parties would be held responsible if there was an outbreak of infectious diseases in the city. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Rajeswara Rao said the “garbage politics” of the parties had turned the city into a garbage city.
Neither the ruling Congress nor the civic administration was responsible for the situation, he said. “Filing of a complaint in a police station against an IAS officer is unheard of in the country,” he said.
The Left parties filed a complaint in Payakapuram police station against the Municipal Commissioner because the corporation employees dumped garbage in the Ajitsinghnagar yard, he said. The VMC had developed a scientific dump yard in Pathapadu by spending Rs.1.35 crore.
The yard was now full and no more garbage could be dumped there. The VMC made a deposit of Rs.9 crore for acquisition of 100 acres at Agiripalli, but the CPI(M) encouraged the farmers to go to court. The VMC tried to develop another dumping site near Ibrahimpatnam, but the TDP, under the leadership of Mylavaram MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, “provoked” the locals to stop it, Mr. Rajeswara Rao alleged.
These parties should take up responsibility for the unhygienic conditions in the city and for outbreak of any epidemics, he said.
