The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has announced the names of six candidates for the vacancies in the Legislative Council on Thursday.
The candidates who have been tentatively chosen under the MLA quota are Jupudi Prabhakar and M.A. Sharif from Prakasam and West Godavari districts respectively.
The others picked up under the governor’s quota are Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy (Nellore), T.D. Janardhan (Krishna), Panchumarthi Anuradha (former Mayor of Vijayawada) and G. Srinivasulu (Chittoor). Meanwhile, BJP has announced the candidature of its National Executive member Somu Veerraju for the ensuing elections to Legislative Council. The announcement caught political circles by surprise and the TDP is yet to convey its decision on whether or not to accommodate its electoral ally. According to sources, the TDP leadership is examining various options on the issue.
TDP president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is reportedly keen on accommodating “young faces” from the long list of aspirants for the MLC seats in the party. In the process, accommodating the smaller ally could lead to some disappointment to the party loyalists, sources added.
