At a time when the Election Commission asked the Anti-Corruption Bureau to conduct a thorough investigation into the ‘note for vote scam’ in which leaders of the Telugu Desam Party were involved, the TDP activists here were celebrating the victory of the party’s nominee Reddi Subrahmanyam in the Legislative Council’s election here on Wednesday evening.
Party district unit president Parvatha Chitti Babu, MLAs and other leaders joined the celebrations at the party office here and offered sweets to Mr. Subrahmanyam. The TDP nominated Mr. Subrahmanyam to the Legislative Council’s local bodies’ constituency seat. The YSRC has not fielded its candidate in the fray, after finding that their votes were insufficient to win the election. Even as two candidates filed their nominations, they were rejected in the scrutiny.
As Mr. Subrahmanyam remained the lone contestant in the poll and declaring him getting elected was a mere formality, the party leaders celebrated his victory. Election Observer Luv Agarwal scrutinised the nomination papers in the presence of Returning Officer C. Hari Kiran at Kurnool Collectorate on Wednesday. They announced rejection of one of the two sets of nomination filed by an independent Dandu Seshu Yadav, as he did not file original affidavits in Form 26.
