There is nip in the air and the sweet chimes ringing in melodious hymns across the churches are a sign that Christmas is round the corner.Even as Christmas advent kicks up a shopping frenzy, Christians celebrate advent season before Christmas by singing carols in special candle light services in churches. At a special candle light service held at St. John’s CSI Church here, the members of congregation celebrated Christmas by singing carols. The 100-year old popular church premises were decorated with colourful lights.

Led by Presbyter In-Charge Rev. Ch. Amal Johnson, the choir team comprising organist Jerry and other members sang classical Christmas Carols as the evening worship turned into a joyful celebration. The service began with the singing of ‘O Come, all ye faithful…’ and the choir members who sang in all four parts, Altos, Supranos, Tenors and Bases, sang popular hymns- Hark! The Herald Sing,’’ Joy to the World!..” etc.

Later, a special Christmas message was given by Rev Ruben Mark from Andhra Christian Theological College in which the speaker said that the essence of Christmas lies in the fact that Christ came to the world, lived like a human being, was crucified for redeeming human beings and resurrected on the third day.

The congregation sang ‘Silent Night..’ by holding candles lit at the Christmas tree on the church premises. Secretary Kavitha David and other members of the committee oversaw the arrangements. The special service ended with a fellowship dinner for members and guests.

A special carol and candle light service would be held at St. Mathew North Parish here on December 21.
