The Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association (APOA), recognised by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), is organising Swarnandhra Olympic Run on June 23 in Vijayawada, according to association secretary R.L. Purushotham here on Tuesday.

Speaking to media persons, while releasing the poster of the run, he said the event was organised in view of the World Olympic Day observed by the International Olympic Council (IOC) world-over. About 30,000 participants are expected to run in the mega event which would begin in five zones — KBN College, M.G. Baig High School, APSRM School (Krishna Lanka), SRR College (Machavaram) and NTR Statue (Patamata).

He said efforts would be made to motivate around 6,000 participants from each zone and the run, which will commence at 7 a.m., will culminate at the IGMC Stadium at M.G. Road at 8 a.m.

Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Chairman P.R. Mohan said apart from MPs, MLAs and the district officials, Sports Minister and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will take part. “Last year the event was not held as the situation was fluid following the bifurcation,” Mr. Purushotham said.
