For those interested in taking up rooftop farming here is some good news. The State government under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas scheme is offering 50 per cent subsidy on seeds, fertilisers and farming equipment.

House owners with a minimum of 50 to 100 square foot space in their balconies or backyard are eligible for availing 50 per cent subsidy.

The government would offer a special packet containing tarpaulin sheet, mixture of sand and fertilisers, seeds bag, neem powder and oil and farming equipment to promote rooftop farming in houses, said Horticulture Department Assistant Director S. Sujatha.

The packet would generally cost Rs.6,000 but the government was offering 50 per cent subsidy and providing it for Rs.3,000. Those interested can approach the Horticulture Department Assistant Director’s office at Venkateswaranagar near Vinayaka theatre or contact over phone: 0866-2492665.
