The State government is contemplating setting up district electricity committees to monitor the execution of flagship programmes in the power sector like the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY).
The committees will be headed by the senior MP from the district as chairperson and other MPs as co-chairperson The panel would consist of the Chief Engineer/superintending engineer of the respective district as member secretary and MLAs, district Collector and senior representatives of the power utilities as members.
Orders on the constitution of the committees are likely to be issued shortly.
According to Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, the panels had been necessitated to oversee works under the DDUGJY aimed at electrifying 6.83 lakh rural households including 4.32 lakh belonging to BPL families in 1031 habitations at a cost of Rs. 330 crore.
The works under the scheme would also include separation of agriculture feeders, metering provision at the distribution transformers and feeders.
The IPDS was aimed at strengthening the transmission and distribution network and making the distribution sector IT enabled involving a cost of Rs. 430 crore.
