“State committed to Kapus’ cause”

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana has stated that he could not decipher the reasons behind deeksha announced by Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham. The State government had already constituted a Commission to look into the Kapu quota issue. The Commission would submit the report in nine months. “What prompted them to announce a deeksha? He should clear air.” the Minister said.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Narayana said that the government had already set the ball in motion by constituting the Commission. Their stir would have a sense had it been was launched much before the Commission was announced. Their apprehensions and agitation were unfounded as the government was committed to its promise, he said.

Making a fervent appeal to people no to take hasty decisions, the Minister said, “It was unfortunate that a person breathed last in the episode. As a Kapu, I request all Kapus to maintain restraint. They need not panic and agitate. There are certain legal issues involved in the quota issue. The government is sorting out. Unless the Commission gave a report, the quota implementation was not possible”
