The stage is set for the Collectors’ conference scheduled to be held at Hotel Gateway here on January 7.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu along with Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao and a host of other top officials will take stock of the developments in the State. The Chief Minister is expected to brief the Collectors on the strategy to be adopted for achieving rapid development of the State. Land pooling for the capital will be discussed in detail in the context of lingering doubts over the government’s intention behind ‘pooling’ of agricultural land (30,000 acres in the first phase) of the total of 1 lakh acres to be required for the capital city.

The conference, a precursor to the forthcoming budget session -- the first full-fledged one post-bifurcation -- will also discuss threadbare issues confronting the State as well as prioritisation of allocations to be made to different departments.

According to the schedule, Mr. Naidu will arrive at Gannavaram airport at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. He is scheduled to inaugurate the National Ball Badminton Championship at the municipal stadium at 9 a.m. and head for the Collectors’ conference which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mr. Naidu will deliver the concluding address at the conference before leaving for Gannavaram airport in the evening, from where he will fly to Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, at a preparatory meeting held here on Monday in-charge Collector J. Murali instructed the officials to ensure that protocol was strictly followed and necessary arrangements were in place for the successful conduct of the event.

Four Deputy Collectors have been engaged to supervise the arrangements for Wednesday’s meeting. Mr. Murali said more than 220 VIPs including Ministers and State officials, would participate in the meeting. Sub-Collector S. Nagalakshmi instructed the officials to ensure proper coordination with their counterparts in the districts to avoid any confusion and inconvenience to the dignitaries.
