The presiding deity Kanaka Durga atop Indrakeeladri will appear as Sri Durga Devi on Aswiyuja suddha Saptami thithi’ on the eighth day on festival this year on Tuesday. It symbolises victory over evil. Holding weapons such as sword, spear, chakra, she makes the tiger as her ‘vaahana’, vehicle, ( sardoola vahini ) and is fierce in her looks.

She is called as Durga as she killed demon Durgamudu or Durgasura . She is first form of aadi prakriti pancha maha swaroopas . The meaning of the Durga in Sanskrit is a fort, which is very difficult to reach.

She is considered as most powerful goddess, mother of the universe, power; she is behind the work of creation, preservation and destruction of the world.
