Vigilance officials of the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Corporation (APSPDCL) booked 33,721 power pilferage cases in eight districts in 10 months, during 2016-17, and imposed ₹22.74 crore as penalties on the accused, said V. Ravi, Superintending Engineer (SE-Vigilance) of the Corporation.

Giving the details of the theft cases under APSPDCL, Mr. Ravi said of the 33,271 cases, many cases were of unauthorised use of power connections for commercial purpose and by-passing of meters.

The vigilance engineering officials will continue the raids, he said.

The SE said 14 teams including the vigilance engineers, inspectors and their staff conducted raids in Kankipadu, G. Kondur, Vijayawada, Nuzvid Rural areas and Reddygudem mandal on Tuesday and booked 216 cases and imposed ₹14.6 lakh as penalties on those who resorted to power theft.
