Spa is the in thing now. After running around and weeklong toil, many denizens, including women, are on the lookout for avenues to invigorate themselves. And, most seem to be zeroing in on spas to rejuvenate their mind, body and soul with aroma therapies and soothing massages.
Call it changing lifestyles or the need to beat lifestyle stress, many people are hitting the spas regularly for a holistic treatment.
Spa culture, which was once alien to the city, is now fast catching up with people, especially employees, businessmen, housewives and working women.
“It is more of a stress-buster idea that drives many into spas. After working hard all through the week or sweating it out to meet targets, many employees step into spas. Likewise, businessmen travel a lot and are exposed to pollution. Most of them appear exhausted but feel refreshed after experiencing different body massages,” says A. Annapurna, manager of Bubbles Hair and Beauty at Moghalrajpuram.
Daily visitorsSame is the case with housewives and working women.
After facing mental and physical stress due to domestic work or the responsibility to balance personal and professional works at times, many look forward to body massage, she says, adding that everyday two visitors arrive at their spa.
Standalone salonsSpas are no longer confined to high income groups. Presently, there are about eight established spas and salons brands and many standalone salons across the city.
Depending on the service and products used, salon centres charge about Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,500 per sitting.
Money is no deterrent. People are willing to spend, provided they get professional and quality service. “In the past, there was a false notion among people about spas but of late there is lot of awareness and people don’t mind dropping in. Going by the demand, one should not be surprised, if seven to eight more national and international salons come up in the city by next year,” says Aravind, regional manager of Naturals Spa and Salon.
