Two students from AP Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (APSWREIS) have been selected to participate in Deep Technology Learning and Innovation Program at SIRIUS Center, Sochi, Russia. The seven-day training is scheduled from November 25 to December 4.
Maheshwari Chirithoti, a Std 10 student from AP Social Welfare Resident School at Peddapavani in Prakasam district, and K. Lathika Sai Priya Varshini, a 9th Std student from APSWR Center of Excellence (COE) School at Madhurawada in Visakhapatnam district, are all excited about their forthcoming visit to Russia.
The two girls are part of a 25-member Indian students’ team — five teams with five students in each group — in addition to five teachers (one with each team). As part of the NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission’s partnership with Sirius Centre, Sochi, Russia, the students will attend an advanced research-based programme at the Russian centre that invites students with talent and enhances their skills by providing them mentorship, training and experiential learning.
The residential educational learning and innovation programme will be focussed on Deep Technologies designed to develop the students’ competencies in innovative engineering and technological projects to meet the challenges of sustainable development. “It is a very exciting development for all of us here. This visit will go a long way for the girls to further inspire them to take up bigger projects in the days to come. Most importantly, its a great opportunity for them to learn new and innovating things,” said Col. V. Ramulu, secretary of the association.
The Indo-Russian partnership provides a platform for joint scientific and entrepreneurial efforts by the youth of the two nations.
The participants were asked to submit a project on any one of the five subjects — Remote earth sensing, b+iological and genetic research, clean and balanced carbon-free energetic system (water, sun, wind and peaceful atom), Data Analytics and Frontier Technologies and Drones and Robotics.
Maheshwari and Sai Priya Varshini submitted a project on drones and robotics in the preliminary round.
In the second round, a 500-word Statement of Purpose had to be submitted explaining in detail about the salient features of the project, and in the third and final round, the students cleared an interview through Skype where they faced questions from the interviewees.
