When trash meets creativity, art comes to the fore. This was evident at the e-Waste Craft Exhibition, organised by the Electronics Department of Sri Durga Malleswara Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala, on Wednesday.

Many electronic materials like desktops and laptops, old and discarded mobile phones, disfunctional wires produce tonnes of e-waste. Recycling is the most effective way to address the problem to a great extent.

Making the best of their creative streak, students of Siddhartha women’s college used old, worn out electrical material to carve out objects like a Buddha statue, a pen stand, a Vinayaka temple and an idol as well, photo frames, necklaces and even a garbage bin.

The visitors walked through rows of knick-knacks such as a tiny aquarium with a discarded bulb with a colourful fish swimming in it.

A mini image of Cinderella in all its splendour was a big attraction. DVDs and CDs cut into small shapes to be used for embellishment of a sari was something very innovative that many people appreciated.

College director Vijaya Lakshmi, principal Nalini and staff of the Electronics Department were present.
