Activists of the SFI, the Kula Vivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham, and other unions on Monday staged a dharna in front of the office of the Urban Tahsildar demanding that the government issue caste, income, and nativity certificates through tehsildar offices only.
The leaders said students were making rounds to Mee Seva centres and unable to get certificates in time. With only two or three Mee Seva centres in the district, heavy rush was being witnessed at these centres, they said.
The protesters appealed to the government to restore the old system of issuing certificates through revenue officials, set up more Mee Seva centres, initiate measures to prevent corruption in tehsildar offices, and issue certificates to students in time. They blocked the main entrance of the office of the MRO. The police kept a constant vigil on the agitators.
SFI district president T. Praveen and KVPS district unit president G. Nataraju were among those who participated in the dharna.
All student organisations found fault with the State government for insisting on producing caste, income, and domicile/nativity certificates at the time of admission into college/school/hostel and not taking interest in ensuring fast and smooth issue of certificates.
Some private persons were making money by collecting fee to fill online forms and submitting them at small shops set up opposite the MRO office in the city, they said.
