With the colonies in the Krishna river margin areas downstream of Prakasam Barrage coming under flood water following heavy discharge, officials have evacuated hundreds of families to flood relief centres in Krishnalanka and Ramalingeswara Nagar areas.

Apart from families that voluntarily moved to other locations, over 700 persons were currently taking shelter at seven relief camps set up in schools and community halls.

The relief camps included S.V. Reddy Municipal High School, APSR Municipal School, community hall in Ramalingeswara Nagar, Potti Sriramulu Municipal School, function hall and community hall in Ranigari Thota and others in the city limits.

Ranigari Thota, Tarakarama Nagar, Koti Nagar, Police colony and other low-lying areas were flooded since morning and the floodwater level kept rising. People in these areas continued to stay and guarded their homes despite lack of electricity and drinking water.

Municipal Commissioner V. Prasanna Venkatesh reviewed the situation and asked officials to provide food and other essentials necessary for the people at the relief camps.

Meanwhile, people flocked Prakasam Barrage and ghats to witness the sight of Krishna River downstream Prakasam Barrage in spate.
