YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy challenged TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu to seek a CBI inquiry into his assets to let people know whether his track record is clean as he often claims.
Even if Mr. Naidu agrees for that, the CBI would show all sorts of excuses to avoid doing its duty, like it did when former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had asked it to investigate corruption charges faced by the Opposition leader.
Addressing a public meeting here on Thursday night, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said Mr. Naidu did not have the courage to let CBI investigate the allegations on him and asked how he amassed so much wealth after making a humble beginning in politics in the late 1970s when he owned just two acres of land.
Mr. Naidu has no right to level corruption charges against him as it was the TDP which distributed Rs 500 per vote during the recent by-elections to Kovur Assembly seat in Nellore district.
It was again Mr. Naidu who opened the flood gates to liquor business in the State when he was at the helm of affairs, he said. Mr. Reddy said the Congress and the TDP were trying hard to write political obituary of YSRCP.
