Minister holds talks with Singapore delegation

Minister for Industries and Commerce and Information Technology Mekapati Goutham Reddy held parleys with a delegation of the Singapore Government-sponsored institutions on skill development, at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

He told the visitors that the government has recently passed a legislation for providing 75% reservation for local youth in industries and proposed to set up Skill Development Centres (SDC) in all Lok Sabha constituencies to equip the youth with the necessary skill sets.

This was to enable the industries to find the human resources locally thereby cut their staffing costs and provide jobs to youth in the areas nearby.

Mr. Goutham Reddy observed that as industries in Tamil Nadu have all the resources located in their vicinity, the government was not under the obligation to dole out huge incentives, instead it just needed to provide the basic amenities and facilitate other things that made doing business easy.

The Andhra Pradesh government was trying to follow a similar model and it would be disciplined in giving incentives to the prospective investors. The focus would be on strengthening logistics i.e. seaports and airports, the well-developed road network and the vast hinterland.

A.P. Government advisor (industrial promotion) Krishna G.V. Giri and others were present.
