YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an appointment during his visit to the State on October 22 to submit a memorandum on Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh.

In the letter, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy informed the Prime Minister about his recent deeksha in Guntur and demonstration by the YSR Congress workers and leaders at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for special status.

“We have been all making efforts to achieve special status the latest being hunger strike by me and which was foiled by the State government on the seventh day,” said Mr. Reddy.

He reminded Mr. Modi about the Parliament’s promise over sanctioning Special Status to Andhra Pradesh. He wanted to meet the Prime Minister along with the party’s MPs, MLAs and MLCs, either at Gannavaram airport or at Tirupati on October 22.

After the foundation ceremony at Amaravati, the Prime Minister would be laying foundation for the Tirupati Airport in evening.

Mr. Reddy had earlier written an open letter to Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu about his decision not to participate in the Amaravati foundation ceremony, which triggered a war of words between the ruling and Opposition parties.

He said the State government had collected the lands from farmers for capital construction by exerting pressure and spending huge money for the ceremony, against the people’s interest.

He wants to meet the Prime Minister along with party MPs. MLAs, and MLCs at Gannavaram or Tirupati airport
