More than 500 students who found themselves in the lurch after they could not register their names in the scholarship portal – Gnanabhoomi – would stand to benefit after Collector Kona Sasidhar brought the issue to the notice of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu at the Collectors’ conference.

The students could be in danger of losing the scholarships as the colleges have not got affiliations yet, Mr. Sasidhar said urging the CM to extend the last date for registering the names in the portal.

The CM who agreed readily, issued directions to the Social Welfare Department officers.

Housing sops

Mr. Sasidhar also sought the directions of Mr. Naidu in extending the benefits provided to the beneficiaries of housing schemes to those in semi-urban areas as in urban areas which would pave the way for the grounding of all schemes.

The Collector also said that the district stood first in public distribution system and NTR Bharosa pensions and second in housing schemes by APTIDCO. The citizen satisfaction levels stood at 80%. The district also stood first in the free power supply to SC/ST beneficiaries under Babu Jagjivan Ram Free Power Scheme for those utilising less than 100 units of power.
