The district administration is making elaborate arrangements for conducting Sankranti Sambaralu festivities on January 13 at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in the city and at Machilipatnam.
As part of the celebrations, rangoli, cooking, kabbadi and other competitions would be conducted at different places in all the 49 mandals, eight municipalities, including Vijayawada Municipal Corporation limits, in the district.
On January 13, there will be special rangoli and traditional dishes cooking competitions for women and kabbadi competitions for men.
There will be special performances by folk artistes, Haridas and Kuchipudi dance shows.
This apart, there will be special stalls that will showcase best agricultural practices, horticulture tips and Ongole bulls and best cattle display from across the State. Best farmers will be presented with Rs.5,000 cash awards and appreciation letters on the occasion, said in-charge Collector J. Murali at a video conference held with district authorities here on Saturday.
