Salary hike brings cheer to ASHA workers

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s announcement on Monday on the salary hike for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA workers) has brought relief for the agitated staff.

ASHA workers have been demanding a raise for long to cope with rising prices. “We have not received our salaries for seven months. We only get our incentives which is not enough for our sustenance,” said V. Lakshmi, an ASHA worker. In June last year, former CM Chandrababu Naidu had announced a ₹3,000 hike after protests by ASHA workers from all over the State.

“Naidu promised us a hike but did not deliver. Jagan also promised to hike our pay during his padayatra , but I will only be happy when I receive it,” said Revathi, another ASHA worker.
