The Railway Protection Force (RPF), the civil police and the Government Railway Police (GRP) will exchange the Criminal Data Base (CDB) in Andhra Pradesh.
The system was introduced for the first time in the Railways in the Vijayawada railway division, said RPF Inspector General and Principal Chief Security Commissioner of South Central Railway (SCR), G.M. Eswara Rao. The IG met Additional Director General (Railways) K.R.M. Kishore Kumar in this regard on Tuesday. The GRP and the RPF held discussions on sharing the data on the Automated Fingerprints Identification System (AFIS).
“Not only the data related to criminals and inter-State gangs on moving trains, CDB of all offenders available with the civil police would be shared with RPF, which will help it track the movements of criminals and minimise crime,” said Mr. Eswara Rao at a press conference here.
The Railways had provided the fingerprint-based criminal identification devices to RPF, which would be of help to the GRP and the civil police in the State, he said.
“A team has been constituted to monitor the project. The AP Police and GRP have agreed to collaborate on the new project, and discussions are being held with the Telangana police too,” the IG said.
Inter-State gangs
Mr. Eswara Rao said the Pardhi gang, which struck in the Guntakal division recently by tampering with signals, has been arrested in the Central division, and the gang members would be taken into custody on Prisoner’s Transit (PT) warrant.
About six robber gangs of north India were moving in SCR of which four were arrested in Vijayawada a few months ago, the IG said.
Senior Divisional Security Commissioner S.R. Gandhi said that vigil has been stepped up to prevent ganja smuggling and child and women trafficking.
RPF has recovered property worth ₹2.21 crore in theft of passenger belonging cases and apprehended 88 offenders till date this year. Similarly, 212 cases under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act, 1986, were detected in the Vijayawada division, Mr. Gandhi said.
