The flood situation continues to be grim in Guntur district following heavy discharge from Nagarjunasagar and Pulichintala reservoirs and Prakasam Barrage.
Road links between Amaravathi (old town) and Vijayawada remain cut off for the second consecutive day.
Flood waters marooned Pedamadduru village, inundating crops, and the village remains cut off from the main land. The villages located along the river bed downstream of Prakasam Barrage are in danger of being marooned.
Collector I. Samuel Ananda Kumar rushed to Kolluru village and took stock of the situation. A bund at Aravinda bridge at Kolluru breached and flood waters have started gushing towards low-lying areas.
As the outflow from Nagarjuna Sagar touched 8.12 lakh cusecs, the district administration intensified efforts to evacuate people. The water discharge from Dr. KL Rao Sagar Multipurpose (Pulichintala) reservoir reached 7.53 lakh cusecs, putting enormous pressure on Prakasam Barrage.
Several low-lying areas in Bellamkonda and Amaravathi mandals have been marooned. The Pushkar ghat at Amaralingeswara Swamy Temple at Amaravathi is flooded. Water entered Pallipalem village in Repalle mandal forcing the villagers to leave their houses.
