Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal on Saturday said that action would be taken against the rice millers who indulged in malpractices while procuring produce from the farmers during the khariff season.

Speaking to members of Krishna District Rice Millers Association and civil supplies department officials, he said that farmers were ready to harvest the khraiff crop and the millers should come forward and buy the produce by offering at least the minimum support price.

Paddy purchase centres

“We increased the minimum support price recently. Grade A (75kg) will fetch Rs. 832.50 while the common variety will fetch Rs. 810”.

He said that the district administration had opened several paddy purchase centres in the district for the benefit of the farmers.

“Farmers in Tiruvuru, Vissanpeta, Chatrai, Kankipadu and Kaikaluru are all set to harvest their crop.

Food Corporation of India has opened 12 centres, while the self help groups have opened 46 centres.

As many as 44 centres were opened by the primary agricultural centres,” he added.
