Release stormwater drainage funds: MP

June 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) wrote a letter to Finance Secretary P.V. Ramesh urging him to take necessary steps to release funds sanctioned to the city under stormwater drainage scheme.

Mr. Nani, in a letter dated June 23, said that the Central government sanctioned Rs. 460 crore for construction of the stormwater drains in the city. The State government contribution was not warranted for the project sanctioned to the city. The funds neither can be diverted nor kept pending for the reasons whatever may be, he said.

The project has to be completed in three years and the utilisation certificates have to be submitted once in six months. The Central government also insisted that funds be spent for the purpose meant for. Else, the funds would have to be returned with interest. Hence, it was requested to release the one time special assistance immediately, he said.
