Proposed amendments to Sec. 498A IPC opposed

Activists of various women organisations opposed the amendments proposed to Section 498A of the IPC aimed at protecting women from harassment and cruelty.

Leaders of AP Mahila Samakya, Pragathiseela Mahila Sangam, Bharata Prajatantra Mahila Sangam at a press conference held here on Friday, said they would launch agitation if any attempts were made to amend the section.

False propaganda was made on Section 498-A, which was framed to protect women from harassment. Mahila sangams would launch protests against the proposal, said Prajatantra Mahila Sangam State general secretary D. Ramadevi.
