Project to curb IMR, in Nandigama, Vuyyuru

The Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare (DoHMFW) has chosen Nandigama and Vuyyuru mandals for implementing a pilot project aiming at curbing the infant and maternal mortality rates.

This was announced by Principal Secretary (Women and Child Welfare) Nilam Sawhney during a review meeting on the issue with District Collector A. Babu, Sub-Collector S. Nagalakshmi and other officials here on Saturday.

On the occasion, Ms. Sawhney said that a detailed survey in the mandals would be taken up with the involvement of the DoHMFW and others and volunteers such as teachers and anganwadi workers. A host of parameters were stipulated for the purpose.

Mr. Babu said due emphasis was laid on reducing the death of infants and mothers to which top priority had been accorded by the government.

World Bank representative Sarala Rajalakshmi and others were also present.

A detailed survey will be taken up in the mandals with the involvement teachers and anganwadi workers
