Police move to foil MRPS march to Assembly

July 30, 2019 01:05 am | Updated 01:05 am IST - GUNTUR

The Guntur police have placed restrictions under Section 144 Cr.P.C and Section 30 of the Police Act in view of the call given by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi to lay siege to the Assembly on Tuesday to press for categorisation of the Scheduled Castes.

Superintendents of Police, Guntur Urban, PHD Ramakrishna and R. Jayalakshmi, in separate press releases, said there was no permission for the proposed march as the Budget session of the Assembly was on.

The two police units also deployed more than 1,000 police personnel, including strike force, to prevent any untoward incident.

Earlier this month, the Guntur police foiled an attempt by MRPS founder Mandakrishna Madiga to take out a protest march to the Secretariat.

Mr. Ramakrishna and Ms. Jayalakshmi reviewed the law and order situation and sought the cooperation of people in ensuring peace.
