Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said water would be released from the Polavaram project on a trial basis on May 30 and on full scale in the first week of June.

Taking stock of the priority projects in the irrigation sector at a review meeting at the Secretariat, Mr. Naidu said 64.68% of the project work had been completed so far and both the diaphragm wall construction and the jet grouting finished.

The upper and the low coffer dams work was going on at a brisk pace.

The CM said water would be released from the Cherlopalli reservoir to the Punganur branch canal on January 29. He ordered that the Velugonda project in Prakasam district be expedited so that it could be completed by June or July.

If continued at the current slow pace, it would require another 16 months for completion, which would be an inordinate delay, he said.
