‘Plans afoot to improve water management system’

Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Saturday said that plans had been chalked out for improve water management system by completing the pending projects in the region, adding that the move would enable administration to supply water to the tail-end farmers.

Participating as the chief guest at a workshop on ‘smart village-smart ward towards smart Andhra Pradesh’ organised at the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here, Mr. Rao said that the government was planning to undertake ‘Neeru-Chettu’ programme on a large scale between March and May to develop water bodies and feeder channels. “With this initiative, we will be able to supply water to tail-end farmers,” he said.

Agro-based industry

According to Mr. Rao, the government accords top priority to develop agriculture and agro-based industries in the State. Listing out priorities of the government, he advised the Krishna district administration to organise a similar workshops involving officials, ward members, municipal councilors and other elected representatives to explain them about the smart village concept.

The government would spend Rs.108 crore on the construction of a swanky terminal at Gannavaram airport, he added.
