Govt. will buy discoloured, damaged paddy, he says

Collector Kona Sasidhar on Thursday assured farmers that compensation for the damage due to the impact of cyclone Phethai would be paid soon and also said the government would purchase the damaged paddy.

Mr. Sasidhar visited the areas in the Tenali revenue division where extensive damage was reported due to the rainfall. He visited Amruthaluru village in Vellaluru mandal along with Joint Director, Agriculture, Vijaya Bharathi.

Saying the unseasonal rain had caused huge losses to the farmers anticipating good return after bountiful production, he said official teams would start touring the affected areas. The State government had designed an app for entering the details of the damaged crop, and all the field officers should upload the details there. “The district administration has established 69 paddy procurement centres and we have announced a minimum support price of ₹1,750 per quintal.’’

Later, the Collector inspected the damaged crops at Tsunduru, Alapadu, Korutatiparru villages.
