Several members of the Andhra Pradesh Association of the Deaf staged a demonstration in the city, demanding that the State government recruit people with hearing disabilities in backlog posts reserved for the differently-abled.
People with hearing disabilities, hailing from various parts of the State, highlighted their grievances and made a list of demands they wanted the government to meet.
The association demanded that the government provide jobs to people with hearing abilities in both public and private sectors. They demanded recruitment at Grama and Ward secretariats to the posts reserved for disabled and hearing handicapped people, which were lying vacant.
Members of the association also that the government should arrange an interpreter for persons with speaking and hearing disabilities in the event they have a police complaint or court case against them. They said they have sent proposals to the government for the same purpose.
They demanded that hearing handicapped people be eligible for 50% concession in the buses operated by the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation.
