‘Pentavalent’ vaccination programme launched

May 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:03 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

District Collector Babu. A launched the ‘pentavalent’ vaccination at the Urban Health Centre in Kothapet here on Friday.

On the occasion, he suggested parents to get the vaccine administered to their children aged below five without fail to give them protection from diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, pneumonia, and hepatitis-B.

“These diseases can be fatal if preventive vaccination is not done,” he warned the parents.

Mr. Babu said the government was making the vaccine available free of cost at government hospitals and primary health centres, and people should utilise the opportunity.

Parents have to get their infants vaccinated thrice — six, 10, and 14 weeks after birth.

It was found that 5,700 children were born in the month of March in the district and steps were taken for their vaccination.

MLA Jaleel Khan and District Medical and Health Officer K. Nagamalleswari were present.
