Pavitrotsavam to be performed from August 1


Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam is gearing up to organise three-day Pavitrotsavam from August 1. The rituals, which would start with snapanabhishekam, will be followed by purification rituals. The temple priests said the Pavitrotsavam was the purification ceremony which was conducted to expiate the errors in the daily worship and other religious rites performed in the temple.

The temple priests would distribute pavitra, a holy thread, to the devotees after they were adorned on the presiding deity. The devotees wear the holy thread across their neck throughout the year. Special poojas and homams would be organised.

The temple management is also making elaborate arrangements for ensuing Sraavana maasam, Telugu month considered auspicious by the people. People perform Varalakshmi pooja on Friday during this month. The temple officials are planning it organise on last Friday this year. However, it is not yet confirmed. The temple, last year, organised Varalakshmi pooja atop of Indrakeeladri. The temple supplied blouse pieces and bangles as prasadam to the devotees participated in the pooja.
