Open new sand reaches to meet scarcity, CS asks Srikakulam Collector

Addressing the issue of scarcity of sand in Visakhapatnam district, Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao instructed the Srikakulam District Collector to open new sand reaches to deliver more sand to the port city.

Reviewing implementation of the sand policy through a video conference with the District Collectors on Monday, Mr. Rao enquired about the shortage and instructed Solomon Arokiya Raj, Chief Executive Officer of Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), to go to Srikakulam on October 13 to solve the problem between Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts.

Nod for new reaches

Director of Mines and Geology Girija Shankar informed that permission was given for new sand reaches and extra evacuation was being done especially for Krishna and Guntur districts.

The Chief Secretary also instructed officials to ensure timely delivery of sand to customers and follow the guidelines issued after the recent Cabinet meeting.

Control rooms

Control rooms have been established in all the districts to monitor sand reaches through CC cameras and tracking of vehicles through GPS.

Toll-free number

A toll-free number 18001212020 was also provided to handle grievances, enquires and other related issues.
