Andhra Pradesh Basketball Association (APBA) will conduct both 26th sub junior (under-13) and 27th junior inter-district tournaments for boys and girls at QIS Engineering College at Ongole in Prakasam District from April 27 to May 1, according to APBA general secretary Sampat Kumar here on Thursday.
He said 21 district teams were expected to participate in the five-day tournament which will be played on league-cum-knockout basis. “Each team should send four teams (2 boys and two girls). As the examinations got over recently, we have to wait and see how many teams are turning up for the tournament,” Mr. Kumar added.
The APBA general secretary said 18 matches were scheduled every day on two courts with floodlight facilities. “Each quarter is 10 minutes and substitution after three quarters is a must. Player can be any of the three quarters. We are also banning the three-pointer in this segment,” he said.
The event assumes significance as the Andhra Pradesh junior and sub-junior teams for the respective Nationals will be picked up on the concluding day of the tournament.
“The sub-junior team will participate in the Nationals at Goa from May 6 to 12, while junior team will take part in the Nationals at Puducherry from May 23 to 30,” Mr. Kumar said.
