Octopus, Greyhounds scan capital region

October 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

With less than a week left for the Amaravati foundation day ceremony at Uddandarayunipalem village in Guntur district, intelligence personnel have stepped up vigil in the capital region.

As several important personalities are likely to attend the event, state and central police agencies have started sanitising the venue and the routes leading to it.

Octopus, Greyhounds and Anti-Naxal Squad (ANS) police inspected the Krishna river bund where the foundation stone ceremony will take place on October 22.

“With Maoists becoming active in a few parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in recent weeks, police have stepped up vigil for the ceremony,” said a senior police officer. Police are also planning to step up security at government and private guest houses where VIPs are being provided accommodation.

“Already Octopus, ANS and Greyhounds personnel have been posted to the sensitive spots,” said a police official
