Recycling of obsolete electronic devices is an ecologically friendly move that should be widely promoted, as they would otherwise end up as a source of toxins and carcinogens that would pollute the environment, said Sri Durga Malleswara Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala director T. Vijayalakshmi.
Ms. Vijayalakshmi was addressing reporters on the sidelines of an ‘e-Waste Craft Expo- 2k19’ organised by the Department of Electronics in the college on Thursday.
Making good use of discarded compact discs, cassettes, cables, batteries and bulbs, the students crafted several decorative items such as a carving of Lord Vinayaka, a mobile phone stand, a pen stand, wall hangings and tiny temples and houses.
Other attractions were a dress and a sari made out of CDs cut into small pieces, which were then adorned by the students. Several other things were made using obsolete devices, such as robots and an aquarium.
Principal M. Nalini said that the idea was to give students a platform to showcase their creative side. Head of the Department of Electronics J.P. Kanti and other faculty members were present.
