To encourage employees to settle down in the developing city

The State government released the Employees Housing Policy (EHP) for allotment of land in the Amaravati capital city area on Thursday. It was aimed at encouraging the first settlers (judiciary functionaries/employees, government functionaries/employees, Legislature employees, press etc.) in the new city to create a social environment by providing housing and incentivising housing investments.

Sites measuring 500 square yards per head would be allotted to officers/employees’ societies and groups having at least 12 members subject to other eligibility criteria.

The capital city area was notified in 29 villages of Guntur district and named as Amaravati.

The High Court (HC), Legislature, Secretariat, offices of the Heads of Departments (HoDs), State public sector undertakings and State-level institutions are being established in the new city. Buildings of the Secretariat, Legislature, HoDs are coming up in the government city while the HC and related institutions are being built in the ‘Justice city’. About 10,000 staff are to be relocated to Amaravati.

As the city is under development, there is a lack of housing stock and considering the fact that the existing greenfield capital cities have been struggling to attract human settlement even after two to three decades of development, the housing programme is being taken up.

On the basis of the applications and declarations by the officers and employees, the Capital Region Development Authority will assess the requirement of land to be allotted as house sites/flats to the eligible ones. The CRDA will fix the market rate as recommended by the Group of Ministers and allot land without again referring the matter to the government.
