In order to promote eco-friendly Vinayaka Chavithi, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has offered to give permissions for free to the organisers installing clay idols instead of the ones made with plaster of Paris and chemical colours.

According to a release, those setting up pandals with idols made of plaster of Paris and chemicals have to pay ₹1,000 towards municipal fee and fire NOC (₹500) at the grievance cell counter in the VMC office.

Applicants should submit details regarding the location and size of the pandal and idol and Aadhaar numbers of the organisers.

Municipal Commissioner V. Prasanna Venkatesh appealed to the citizens to try to reduce the use of plastic during the festival.
