The Samaikyandhra Joint Action Committee of employees, teachers and workers will block traffic on the National Highway at Benz Circle and Kanakadurga Varadhi Centre on October 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon as part of their agitation against bifurcation of the State. They demanded that the process of bifurcation should be kept on hold till the contentious issues are sorted out and asserted that the employees have only temporarily given up their stir.
A large number of employees, teachers and workers took out a rally from Tagore Memorial Library to Sub-Collector’s office on Saturday morning to press for stalling of the formation of Telangana State which, they said, was bound to have disastrous consequences for all the three regions (Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana).
Addressing the gathering, APNGOs’ JAC leader A. Vidya Sagar said the employees could force Congress high command to slow down the formation of Telangana State by going on strike but it still appears to be intent on carrying the process (of bifurcation) forward in an apparent bid to derive political mileage.
People’s wish
People were expecting the Members of Parliament and State Legislature to take the plunge into anti-bifurcation protests instead of confining themselves to Delhi and star hotels.
“Bifurcation cannot be stopped unless people’s representatives precipitate a crisis by resigning en masse but they chose to hang on to their positions by tendering all sorts of excuses,” Mr. Vidya Sagar added.
